Code of Conduct

JOFcon cares about our members, and aims to have a good, harassment-free convention experience for everyone.

We do not tolerate harassment of convention members in any form. We will refund the membership fee of anyone who finds these policies unacceptable prior to accepting their badge.
Convention participants violating this Code of Conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from the convention at the discretion of the convention organizers. JOFcon reserves the right to revoke, without refund, the membership of anyone for just cause. This may also lead to being banned from future JOFcon conventions. Persons violating the law may additionally be turned over to the police or the hotel security force.
JOFcon expects its members to respect each other and behave in a generally civilized fashion. Members should respect common sense rules for public behavior, personal interaction, common courtesy, and respect for private property.
Disruptive behavior is not acceptable. Any request to leave an area must be complied with immediately; appeals should be brought to attention to the JOFCon chair (Michael Lee) or other people to be listed here.
Convention badges must be worn by all attendees and staff.
JOFcon forbids abusive, insulting, harassing or intimidating behavior. Please report any incidents in which a member of the convention is abusive, insulting, intimidating, bothersome, or acting in an unsafe or illegal manner to a JOFcon staffer or conchair.
Gratuitous sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any convention venue.
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Please note, this list is not exhaustive, but is indicative of unacceptable behavior.
Please also be considerate of non-convention individuals at all times. Sleeping in public areas of the hotel is unacceptable behavior, and forbidden by the hotel management.
Participants asked to stop any problematic behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the convention organizers may take any action they deem appropriate. Possible responses include warning the offender and expulsion from the convention. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact either a JOFCon chair or one of the other listeners listed below immediately.
Convention staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the convention. We value your attendance.
JOFcon Minneapolis chair: Michael Lee

JOFCon Minneapolis reserves the right to change this Code of Conduct through October 9, 2015.

Note: Since JOFCon is a convention about convention running, and codes of conduct and related issues are very relevant right now, we welcome feedback and discussion about the subject, and expect that we will have discussion about the subject at the convention.
